Why does my safety switch keep tripping?
A safety switch that keeps tripping is detecting current leaking from an appliance or circuit. Unplug appliances on the affected circuit and reset it once; if it trips again with everything unplugged, will not reset, or there is heat, smoke or a burning smell, stop and arrange a licensed electrician.

The unplug test, properly explained
Turn the safety switch back on, then unplug everything on the affected circuit before switching individual appliances back on one at a time. If a specific appliance trips it again, that's your answer — a faulty appliance, not a wiring fault. If nothing you plug back in trips it, the problem is more likely in the fixed wiring or the switch itself.
Either way, a repeat trip after this test is worth booking in — a safety switch tripping is doing its job, but the underlying cause still needs to be found.
